Recent media reports have indicated the health benefits of oil pulling. Oil pulling is the practice of swishing oil in the mouth and some claim this daily routine can protect and whiten teeth.
The practice of oil pulling has been around for centuries, and has been practiced in countries such as Asia and India. Typically, a small about of oil is taken into the mouth, and swished around and through the teeth for 1 to 5 minutes.
Currently, there is no scientific evidence to prove that oil pulling improves dental or overall health, or has any tooth whitening effects. Despite recent media reports, the best way to maintain oral health remains brushing teeth with a toothbrush twice a day for two minutes.
